Flowering Patchwork Quilt

The Flowering Patchwork quilt pattern and Template Sets are now available in my shop!

In December of 2022, I was lucky enough to get my hands on a fat quarter bundle of Kimberly Kight’s Lil collection. I love the tiny florals, apples, the colors, everything. This collection is beautiful. It really reminded me of vintage 1930’s fabric that got a modern makeover. This bundle needed a quilt pattern that equally matched the vintage turns modern vibe, thus the Flowering Patchwork quilt was made.

If you haven’t noticed already, I have been really into curves recently, and it all started with this quilt. I love the traditional look of the Flowering Snowball block, so I mixed it with a traditional patchwork quilt on point to give it a circles on top of squares effect. The gentle curves are easy to sew, and you can get away with not pinning at all (I love a quilt that doesn’t require pinning.) This pattern is definitely in my top 5 of the quilts I love to make. It’s fun! Cutting the fabric is quick (especially if you have the acrylic template set), and its fat quarter friendly. And what quilter doesn’t have a mountain of fat quarters stashed away somewhere? Lord knows I do.

The second version I made is this romantic and soft looking quilt using the Gayle Loraine collection from Art Gallery Fabrics designed by Elizabeth Chapple. I adore this quilt, but I took some scissors to it and cut it up. Trust me, it hurt my soul to cut this quilt up, but I did use as much of the quilt as I could to make this gorgeous jacket and a dress. And now I get to wear this quilt around in cold and warm weather. Totally worth it.

Finally, I made my cover quilt. The moment I saw the Wandering Collection from Andover Fabrics designed by Stephanie Oranges I knew I had to have it. Purple is my favorite color, but I rarely ever buy purple fabric. I think it’s because I am so particular about the shades of purple I like. I don’t really know why, but I know that this collection is perfectly purple, and I needed it. This one really makes the white main fabric pop.

There are 3 size Flowering Patchwork quilts you can make: Baby (34” x 34”), Throw (68” x 68”), and Bed (102” x 102”). This is an advanced beginner quilt pattern and I think it’s a great starting off point if you have never sewn curves and want to try it. I do recommend having a couple quilts under your belt to get the 1/4” seam allowance a bit more accurate, but I have found this pattern to be pretty forgiving. The pattern includes paper templates (printable for the PDF), but you can also find my acrylic template sets for the Flowering Patchwork Quilt pattern here.

If you want to watch a video on how to use the templates in the pattern to cut your fabric, check out my youtube video here.

My pattern testers for this quilt both made gorgeous baby quilts.

Mary (@embercraftcompany) made this absolutely amazing quilt using Duval from Art Gallery Fabrics designed by Suzy Quilts. And check out that Sashiko quilting. Bravo, friend. It’s perfect.

Alicia (@wildblooms_quiltco) made this beautiful blue quilt. I love how the blue and white give this quilt a completely traditional feel. And how fun that she made the main fabric scrappy! Stunning.

Thank you so much for your continued support. I hope you love this pattern as much as I do. Even though I have already made 3 versions of this quilt, there are many more in my future. Please share your Flowering Patchwork quilts with me on Instagram @crinklyquilts and use the hashtag #floweringpatchworkquilt. I cannot wait to see the quilts you make.
